Friday, December 2, 2016

The Honourable Bardish Chagger, Minister of Small Business and Tourism, was on campus today to announce $5.7 million in funds for Waterloo's Canada Research Chairs in the areas of environmental modelling and analysis, insurance risk processes, bioinformatics, quantum molecular dynamics, number theory, and philosophy and cognitive science

John Turri
The latter research area represents the work of Professor John Turri, who is recognized as an international leader in experimental philosophy. His Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) is the second major honour for Prof. Turri this fall, following the September announcement of his membership in the Royal Society of Canada's College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists.

Experimental philosophy is an exciting new field of research at the intersection of traditional philosophy and cognitive science. Prof. Turri's research advances philosophical and scientific understanding of concepts central to social cognition, including knowledge, communication and agency.
