Honours Global Business and Digital Arts (GBDA) course selection

First-year Global Business and Digital Arts (GBDA) course requirements

All of our courses are four months in length. You'll normally take five courses in your fall term and five courses in your winter term. 

GBDA fall 1A term (September to December)

You will need to course select the following courses:

  • Language course (see Note 4)
  • Elective (see Note 2)

We will add the following courses for you:

  • ARTS 160 - Inquiry and Knowledge Creation
  • GBDA 101 - Digital Media Design and Production or GBDA 102 - International Business(see Note 1)
  • CS 105 - Introduction to Computer Programming 1 (see Note 3)

GBDA winter 1B term (January to April)

You will need to course select the following courses:

  • Language course (see Note 4)
  • Elective (see Note 2)

We will add the following courses for you:

  • GBDA 101 - Digital Media Design and Production or GBDA 102 - International Business (see Note 1)
  • CS 106 - Introduction to Computer Programming 2
    (see Note 3)
  • ECON 101 - Introduction to Microeconomics

Notes:

  1. GBDA 101  and GBDA 102  be taken in either fall or winter term. Whichever one you complete in the fall term, you will need to complete the other in the winter term. We will add you to these courses.
  2. If you are considering a minor or diploma, select one or two courses in that subject area in your first term
  3. Students interested in pursuing a Computing minor are encouraged to speak with their GBDA advisor about the option to take CS 115 and CS 116 instead of CS 105 and CS 106.
  4. Notes about second language courses:
    • ​The second language requirement can't be fulfilled by taking a course taught in English (e.g., a culture course).
    • Students choosing Chinese or Arabic are required to submit a placement form before enrolling.

EXPLORE the first-year course list and descriptions.

  • Discover elective courses available to you as a first-year Arts student.
  • Numerous minors and diplomas are available. You may want take a course towards a prospective minor or diploma as a first year elective.
  • Note that most Arts courses are held in person.

July 2nd to July 9th inclusive

SUBMIT your Course Selections in Quest.

  • Review "How do I select courses in Quest" for step by step instructions on how to request your courses.
  • Login to Quest and course select your language and elective courses. We will add ARTS 160, GBDA 101 and CS 105 for you.

July 23rd

VIEW your fall class schedule in Quest.

Don't see all of the classes you requested? You can make changes to your schedule starting on July 24th at 9 am (EST).

View your Appointment time in Quest: You will have an appointment time in Quest on either July 24th or 25th. This is when you get access to make changes to your fall schedule. Once you have access you will continue to have access until the final ADD deadline on September 17th.

MAKE approved changes to your schedule, if needed.

  • Don’t see all of the classes you requested?
    • If you didn't get into all of the classes you requested, you must add additional classes (to a maximum of 5 classes in total).

ALERT! ALL Waterloo students have access to Quest to add fall courses as of July 30th. This means available spots in classes will likely fill up quickly after this date.
