Capturing Student and Instructor Insights from the Pandemic to Develop Guidelines on Best Teaching Practices for Post-Pandemic Course Design and Delivery in the Faculty of Health: A Communication-Based Approach

Project Summary

In spring 2020, the Faculty of Health Online Teaching Task Group (OTTG) developed remote teaching guidelines to help instructors with the sudden pivot from in-person to online course delivery. These recommendations provided a foundation for instructors to develop their courses within the Faculty. The proposed project utilizes Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR) design to capture the remote learning and teaching experiences of Faculty of Health students and instructors during the pandemic and examine (a) which aspects of the remote course delivery students and instructors found beneficial for students’ learning, and (b) which teaching and learning activities and assessments should be preserved in post-pandemic course design. The overarching goal of this project is to develop a set of revised guidelines for instructors within the Faculty of Health on how to adapt best practices of remote course delivery to a post-pandemic educational environment and foster deep and meaningful learning.
