Description
Students increasingly use AI, perceiving it as a “better” way to learn; consequently, attendance, engagement and teaching evaluations are slipping. In the age of AI, how should we teach?
Astelle, an inter-disciplinary Teaching Innovation Incubator project initiated by eight professors, shows promising early evidence in addressing this challenge. It helps professors better engage students with real-time insight from students’ own questions, not just grades, pinpointing where they struggle and providing timely, personalized support. Astelle fits into professors’ existing workflows and makes better use of teaching time with little extra effort. Our pilot data and professor testimonials indicate that students’ cognitive offloading is reversing and that they increasingly return to their professor, not AI, as the academic authority.
In this workshop, we’ll walk you through how Astelle works. Bring a laptop and materials for a course you will teach in the coming terms (an outline and some slides). By the end, you can have your course set up and ready to go. Astelle is free to use.
Please register below by Monday, November 23.
