Description: How do we know students know and can do new things as a result of our courses and assignments? How will they know they know? Assessment decisions are made in the context of course objectives and constrained by class size and grading time allotted. We'll cover principles of feedback and evaluation of student work as well as practical advice. Participants will leave with the knowledge required to start an assessment plan for a course or assignment, along with tips about assessment tools such as rubrics, group-grading forms, and multiple-choice item analysis.
Learning Outcomes: After the session, participants will be able to:
- Identify characteristics of effective assessment
- Explain various types of assessment methods
- Take into account key assessment considerations
