The widespread availability and rapid expansion of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools affecting all aspects of academia (and society more generally) means that faculty, staff, and students have been forced to consider how we will respond, often without a clear roadmap or sense of short- and long-term consequences. Our Assessment Guide is structured to give practical ideas to those instructors who wish to avoid inappropriate use of GenAI tools in student learning, and those who wish to incorporate GenAI tools into courses (whether to enhance GenAI literacy or to lead to better learning or both). It is the result of wide collaboration among Academic Support Units, and we anticipate that it will evolve with your feedback and with changes to the available technologies.
