There are two main types of undergraduate programs at Waterloo: entry programs and majors.
You can apply directly to an entry program (because that's how you "enter" university). Sometimes an entry program is the same as your major.
A major is the subject which will be the focus of your degree. Most of the courses you take will be in your major. Learn more about university terminology.
For most of our majors, you need to apply to an entry program and then choose your major either in first or second year. The chart lists our majors and the entry program(s) you would need to apply to.
Here are some examples.
- Civil Engineering is an entry program (as well as automatically being your major).
- Earth Sciences is a major. You apply to Physical Sciences and then choose Earth Sciences as your major.
- History is a major. You apply to Honours Arts or Honours Arts and Business and choose History as your major.
