Writing your performance evaluation comments

Writing employee comments can be difficult and the following tips are
provided as a guide on how to go about it.
  • Avoid the heat of the moment.
  • Read the evaluation carefully before beginning to write. Give yourself some time, at least a day to think about the comments and ratings before you write your response.
  • Make sure you acknowledge points where there is disagreement and be clear and specific in your examples of why you disagree.
  • Write your points as you want them written. The most important thing is that you get your point across.
  • Keep a “me” file on your accomplishments through the year so you have them to refer to at review time.
  • Make sure that you balance your comments with positive and constructive ideas.
  • This is your performance review and the employee comments section is an opportunity to express yourself about your own performance.
