Religion and the Forbidden
Dov Cohen received his doctorate from the University of Michigan and taught at the University of Waterloo, and the University of Illinois, where he is currently a Professor of Psychology. His research relates to cultural continuity and change, within-culture variability, and the way people position themselves with respect to dominant cultural ideals.
Dr. Cohen has conducted research on the cultural syndromes of honor, dignity, and face; religion; language use; violence; and legal policy and practice. He is the co-author of the Handbook of Cultural Psychology, Culture of Honor, and Culture and Social Behavior and has received numerous awards, including the Outstanding Contribution to Cultural Psychology Award from the Society for Personality and Social Psychology.
