The University of Waterloo was one of the first in Canada to have its own in-house training facility for their clinical psychology PhD program. Today, the Centre for Mental Health Research and Treatment celebrates 10 years of excellence in research, practice and treatment services on campus and in the regional community.
The Psychology Department is a proud participant in the UWaterloo Green Office Initiative. As of March 13, 2017, Psychology has become a Bronze Certified Green Office, and is the first UWaterloo academic department to receive this certification.
Giving people time to think about co-operating on a task can have a positive effect if they are big-picture thinkers, but if they tend to focus on their own, immediate experience, the time to think may make them less cooperative, University of Waterloo research has found.
A series of three experiments, conducted by Waterloo researchers Igor Grossmann, Justin Brienza and Ramona Bobocel, also found that wise, or big-picture, thinkers were able to sustain their co-operation with others when given time to deliberate.

Annually, an award valued at $750.00 is provided to a graduating undergraduate student enrolled in any program at the University of Waterloo. Selection are based on academic excellence, prior research experience related to child language development, and a demonstrated commitment to future postgraduate study in the area of child language development. No application is required. This fund is made possible by a donation from Knowledge in Development Inc.
