Faculty of Health Awards Readiness Panel & Workshop

Join us as we hear from faculty members who have navigated awards throughout their careers (spanning early career through to established career opportunities), with perspectives from applicants, recipients, and/or reviewers. Learn about: 

  • establishing an awards trajectory
  • general ‘tips and tricks’ for success
  • what it means to stay “awards ready” 
  • supports available at the University of Waterloo to support you through the application process 
Panelists:
Dr. Robin Duncan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences Faculty of Health) at the University of Waterloo, where she studies novel enzymes in lipid metabolism, and molecular mechanisms of nutraceuticals in health and disease. Her most recent CIHR was ranked 1st in her panel, and she was awarded an NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplement (DAS Award) with her most recent NSERC grant. She reviews for grant panels nationally and internationally, and was awarded a King Charles III Coronation Medal by the Government of Canada in 2025 for her leadership in supporting the scientific mission of the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada. In 2022, she received a lifetime achievement Distinguished Teacher Award from the University of Waterloo.

Dr. John Hirdes is the President of interRAI (www.interRAI.org), an international consortium of about 150 researchers from over 60 countries. He holds the distinguished title of University Professor in the School of Public Health Sciences, University of Waterloo with a cross-appointment to the Balsillie School of International Affairs. He is a Member of the Order of Canada, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
