Formed as a means for graduate students in the wide-ranging fields of recreation, leisure, tourism studies and therapeutic recreation to come together and share research and ideas, the Graduate Leisure Research Symposium is a forum to present to peers and faculty in a low-stress and supportive environment.
Hosted by the Graduate Association of Recreation and Leisure Studies (GARLS), the symposium aims to:
- advance discourses of knowledge surrounding leisure research (broadly defined to include recreation, sport, tourism, therapeutic recreation, and the like)
- facilitate scholarly communication among students and faculty interested in various aspects of leisure research
Due to the rising safety concerns of the COVID19 virus, we have decided to cancel the 2020 GARLS Symposium scheduled for May 1. We are saddened by the current situation, however as a department we feel this is the best course of action moving forward.
We appreciate those who have taken time to contribute to planning the Symposium to this point. To those who have submitted abstracts, we are working to compile the accepted abstracts in a publishable format to ensure you are recognized for your research efforts and contributions. We will be in touch with each author in the near future with further direction. We apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused you. Again, we appreciate the time you have given working with us.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us at any time.
Thank you kindly,
Dan Wigfield & Jaylyn Leighton, Co-Chairs
