Medical Abbreviations and Documentation - For TR students
The Health Clinical Skills Lab Series is a recurring professional development initiative designed to bridge in-class learning with practical, real-world skill application for students interested in clinical work currently enrolled in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Health Studies, and Kinesiology. Led by Health faculty and/or practicing professionals from a range of health and clinical settings, these 1-2 hour workshops give students hands-on exposure to the practical competencies, professional pathways, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills needed to succeed in clinical and community-based placements, co-op terms, and future certification or registration processes (e.g., NCTRC/CTRS, R/TRO, and other relevant professional designations across health disciplines).
Students will learn common medical abbreviations, professional shorthand, and documentation conventions used across health disciplines. They will practice interpreting and communicating clinical information across disciplinary vernaculars, recognizing how documentation supports continuity and collaborative care.
This session is reserved for students in Therapeutic Recreation. Another session, open to all students in the Faculty of Health, will be offered on September 22.
