Join the inaugural community outreach event of the Longhouse Labs, a program that aims to offer the most prestigious Fellowships for Indigenous artists in Canada, providing a destination for Indigenous knowledge sharing, skill development, and creative practice.

The Indigenous Speakers Series is honoured to present Dr. Talena Atfield, member of the Kanien’kehá:ka Nation of the Six Nations of the Grand River. Focusing on her work with Hodinohso:ni basket weavers, Dr. Atfield will speak about Western notions of the origins of Indigenous artistic practices versus the importance of arts and creation within the community.

Dr. Naila-Keleta Mae’s Black And Free research-creation project features Ontario-based Black artists Beck Deresse, Ken Daley, Miss Coco Murray, Simone Patricia, Suritah Wignall, and Tafui at THEMUSEUM in Kitchener during February and March. The artists have been commissioned to create original work in the medium of their choice on the topic of blackness and freedom.

Join us on Tuesday, February 14 at 1:00 PM for for the Black History Month Student Research Panel, featuring history students from the University of Waterloo and the University of Toronto. Panelists include Tolulope Akande (University of Waterloo), Arshad Desai (University of Toronto), and Abigail Opoku (University of Waterloo). 

Join us for coffee, Ukrainian treats, personal tours, and a virtual reality experience as Ukrainian students share first-hand stories of the war in their country.
