Women have far too often been forgotten, overlooked, and marginalised in Austria’s official historiography—a fact that lends all the more importance to this exhibition’s attempt to survey the past 200 years in light of the biographies of important Austrian women.

The University of Waterloo Art Gallery (UWAG) welcomes everyone to Sovereign Acts curated by Wanda Nanibush with the works of artists Rebecca Belmore, Lori Blondeau, Dayna Danger, James Luna, Shelley Niro, Adrian Stimson, and Jeff Thomas. Please join us for this thoughtful and timely exhibition.

Co-curated by Jane Tingley, professor in the Department of Fine Arts, INTERACTION is an exhibition that explores how Canadian artists and designers are engaging the public through interactivity. The presented works are both material art objects as well as interactive systems that are designed to be realized by an active viewer, one that co-creates, participates, and engages rather than passively consuming media.

Part of the ongoing Unsettling Conversationsteaching and learning sessions, students in ARTS 130, an Arts First pilot course, present their poster projects in Dana Porter Library, Thursday April 5, all day. The students' posters incorporate their research on decolonization and Indigenous resistance from the course "Reconciliation, Resistance, Resurgence." From 10:00 to 11:00 AM students will be present to talk about their work.

Waterloo's Centre for Theoretical Neuroscience invites everyone to an open house, the culmination of a two-week workshop that teaches researchers how to build sophisticated brain models. These international experts will demonstrate large-scale brain models running on laptops, robots, and specialized brain-like computers while simulating neural functions. Among the brain-like computers used at the summer school is Braindrop, a new mixed analog-digital neuromorphic chip developed in collaboration with Stanford and Yale.

Join us on Friday, September 28 we will launch the new Cybersecurity and Privacy Institute and learn about the interdisciplinary, scientific approach to develop solutions to fundamental problems that have the potential to change the landscape of cybersecurity.

Visit the multidisciplinary video installation by artist Lisa Lipton on display at the University of Waterloo Art Gallery (UWAG) until October 27. The fragmented narrative follows the artist's surrogate Frankie as they journey from the fictional town of Greysville crisscrossing North America before making it all the way to paradise: Hawaii. Augmented by props, furniture, and costumes from the nine chapters of the video, the installation evokes the desire to run away, reinvent oneself, and find true love.

This two day Summit will showcase the research of the 2019 Global Engagement Seminar students. Interactive student exhibitions will be on display, inviting participation from the broader Waterloo community. We hope to engage in important conversations about the impacts of artificial intelligence, such as automation of jobs, corporate ownership, biases of algorithms and privacy concerns. The objective is to contribute towards the development of meaningful responses to timely global issues.
