CUT Teaching Dossiers: Part 1 (CTE4113)

In this module, we'll discuss what a teaching dossier is, what it can be used for, and how to make it effective. In Part 1, we’ll focus in on the statement of teaching philosophy. We’ll walk through the components of successful teaching statements and use reflection activities to help you brainstorm ideas for communicating your own teaching philosophy to hiring committees. By the end of this module, you’ll draft your statement of teaching philosophy and give and receive peer feedback on your statement via LEARN.

Workshop Delivery

Structured Format:
Please note that while this module is a self-paced, asynchronous offering, it will follow a structured schedule consisting of two deliverables: completion of the asynchronous module and draft of a statement of teaching philosophy (first two weeks of the month) and participation in peer review to give and receive feedback on the draft statements (second two weeks of the month). The content and expected effort are approximately equivalent to 4-5 hours, but spread over a longer timeframe so you can move at your own pace.
This online module consists of:
  • a set of asynchronous, self-paced tasks in LEARN, that must be completed by the due date of Sunday, September 18 by 11:59 p.m.
  • an asynchronous peer-review process in LEARN, that must be completed by the due date of Sunday, October 2 by 11:59 p.m.

Workshop Deliverable

By the end of this module, you will have a draft of your statement of teaching philosophy and given and received peer feedback on these statements.
