A Lightboard is an illuminated glass “chalkboard” for creating stimulating videos. The instructor stands behind the glass and draws the explanation in front of himself or herself, while facing the camera. Instructor presence, and engaging the students with eye contact and gestures, improves upon the traditional chalkboard where an instructor’s back is facing the audience. In the ITMS Waterloo Studio, Media Production Technicians will help instructors record the audio and visual of these presentations. Lightboard videos can become an integral component of blended, flipped, and online courses.
During this [un]workshop, we will demonstrate the use of the Lightboard and share some potential use cases and best practice tips to enable instructors to use this tool to achieve their course outcomes. Come for a tour of the Waterloo Studio and a demonstration of the Lightboard. You can even try it out yourselves!
