XR Community of Practice Presentation (CTE7019)

Monday, October 16, 2023 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Location: MC 2036

Facilitator: Lynn Long

Description

We have developed and tested a new tool to assist instructors in teaching these topics that require visualization of complex structures and models. The tool is a universal, web-based  Augmented Reality(AR)  app that allows users to display and manipulate molecular structures and other 3D models as if floating directly in front of them. We have started to test the impact of the use of this technology on student engagement and performance in the classroom during a Biochemistry course. We anticipate that using the AR app in class will increase student engagement and active learning in the classroom, thereby increasing understanding of course content.

The AR app is not limited to the display and can be used in many teaching environments. Some examples will be shown during the demonstration.
