In this session we will explore the evidence-based practice of collaborative annotation to encourage students to engage with and think more deeply about your course content. 

​In our current political and social landscape, students are hyperaware and hypersensitive to topics that broach themes of violence, oppression, and power. The hyperawareness of students poses an interesting challenge for instructors, as they need to learn to balance student socio-emotional needs with essential content.

While ChatGPT has dominated university discussions about AI, there have been parallel advancements in AI image generators. In this experiential and interactive session, attendees will be guided through a sample AI image generation exercise that you can consider adapting to your own courses.

Initially developed in 2020 in collaboration with the International Hellenic University, the  Revised Framework of Best Practices for Choosing, Using, and Designing XR Learning Applications, has undergone significant revision and refinement as it has been applied in two published studies (Long & Tsinakos, 2021), (Karabina, Long & Garcia, 2023).

For nearly a year, Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools have been much more widely available than ever before, and carry with them practical and ethical considerations for every discipline’s ways of teaching and learning. Come to this session to find out what Waterloo’s Academic Support Units have created to help you adapt to this rapidly-evolving phenomenon.

This session highlights the use of a problem-solving worksheet in a large class setting that provides students with individual skill development and immediate feedback while still allowing for easily and effective grade tally.

Fundamentals Microteaching Sessions provide participants the opportunity to practice delivering a 10-minute lesson and receive constructive feedback in a supportive, low-risk environment. This session is held online in Zoom.
