Research has shown that written assignments are a powerful means for teaching course content in the disciplines. Yet it can be frustrating when students struggle with assignments, and it can be overwhelming to mark them. In this workshop, we’ll share examples and best practices for using writing efficiently to teach content in any discipline. We’ll discuss research about iterative, meaning-making written assignments that advance student learning, analyze examples of assignments from a range of disciplines, and draft new written assignments to use in your own teaching.
