Engineering Shadow Days

A group of Faculty of Engineering students

Discover what it's like to be an Engineering student at Waterloo! We have a whole team of students who'd love to show you around campus and have you "shadow" them for a day.

Shadow Days are available to Grade 11 and 12 students and can include

  • attending a lecture,
  • seeing a lab,
  • having lunch with a student,
  • touring the Faculty of Engineering, and
  • meeting current students and professors in your program of interest.

Matches are not always possible due to the availability of our students, but we'll try our best to connect you with a student in your program of interest. It may take several days to arrange since our students have classes, assignments, and tests on the go!

Your date of birth is collected to confirm your identity and to match your details with a current or future application to Waterloo, if applicable. This information will be used solely for this purpose.

  • Engineering Shadow Days are available Monday through Friday excluding holidays.
  • The last day to request a Shadow Day for the fall term is November 13 (for the final session on November 27).

Let us know if you have any specific requests. For example, if you're hoping to shadow a particular ambassador, a woman in engineering, or a student with similar extracurricular interests. We'll do our best to find the right match for you!

For students in Grades 10 or younger

Thanks for your interest in Shadow Days. Due to their popularity, we reserve them for students who are applying to university in the next year or two. 

  • If you're not in Grade 11 or 12 yet, we recommend attending our fall or spring open house where you can chat with students and professors. 
  • You can also take a Faculty of Engineering tour as part of our campus visits programs.
