REMINDER: Update Benefit Coverage for Overage Dependent(s) by August 19

  • Each summer our extended health and dental benefits provider requires confirmation of eligible overage dependent children to properly resolve adjudicate claims.
  • Employees with dependent(s) who will be between the ages of 21 and 25 during the upcoming Academic year (September 1, 2022 - August 31, 2023) are asked to review and update their dependent’s student status in Workday.

What you need to do: To ensure continued coverage for your dependent(s) please log in to Workday to review and update their student status no later than August 19, 2022. For detailed instructions, please refer to the Workday User Guide for Overage Dependents posted on the Workday resources website.

If your dependent child is Action Required Steps to take in Workday
turning 21 before August 31, 2023 and will be enrolled in full time studies during the upcoming school year Update their student status in Workday prior to their 21st birthday to avoid loss of coverage Edit their dependent profile using their 21st birthday as the effective date; check off the full-time student flag box and add the student status start and end dates; click submit.
between ages 21 and 25, currently covered as an overage dependent, and will be continuing their studies during the upcoming school year Review and confirm their student status effective dates in Workday View their dependent profile and if their student status effective dates are correct, then no further action is required. If the dates need to be updated, then edit their dependent profile; click submit.
between ages 21 and 25, listed in Workday but not currently covered as an overage dependent, and will be enrolled in full time studies during the upcoming school year Update their student status in Workday and add them to health and dental coverage Edit their dependent profile using September 1, 2022 as the effective date; check off the full-time student flag box and add the student status start and end dates; click submit. Next, initiate and complete the ‘Add a Student Dependent’ benefit event to add their health and dental coverage.

between ages 21 and 25, not listed in Workday, and will be enrolled in full time studies during the upcoming school year

Add them as a new dependent to Workday and add their health and dental coverage Initiate and complete the ‘Add a Student Dependent’ benefit event using September 1, 2022 as the effective date. Add the new dependent, check off the full-time student flag box, add the student status start and end dates and next add their health and dental coverage.

If your overage dependent(s) is between ages 21 and 25 and will not be enrolled in full-time studies during this upcoming academic year, please change their student status end date to August 31, 2022.

To be eligible for extended health and dental benefits coverage, your dependent child must be unmarried and meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Be under 21 years of age, not be employed on a full-time basis (working more than 30 hours per week) and depend on you for support                          -OR-
  2. Be under 25 years of age and a full-time student at an accredited school, college, or university.

Please be aware of the following:

  • Unless Workday records indicate a student status for your dependent child(ren), their coverage will end on their 21st birthday 
  • Coverage automatically ceases on your child’s 25th birthday, regardless of student status.
  • Overage dependent benefits coverage will cease on August 31, 2022 if status is not updated in Workday by August 19, 2022
