Last Friday, representatives from Hicks Morley law firm came to the University of Waterloo to present on recent changes to employment legislation. With the new Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act 2017, comes substantial changes to the Employment Standards Act (ESA), the Labour Relations Act (LRA), and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). 

The Ontario Ministry of Labour has revised the contents of their “What you need to know” poster in accordance with updates to the Employment Standards Act. As a result, employers are required to ensure the following:

As of November 1^st, the hiring process for temporary staff has changed. In the spring of 2016, Human Resources received approval to conduct a pilot within the Student Services portfolio to establish a hiring process for temporary staff that aligned with our hiring of regularized staff.
