Two graduate students receive Mitacs Globalink research abroad awards

Tuesday, October 1, 2019

Congratulations to PhD student Haley Baxter and MA student Jordana Milne who received Mitacs Globalink Research Awards. The $6,000 award provides opportunities for undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdorctoral fellows at Canadian universities to build international research networks and undertake research for 12-24 weeks at a university abroad.

Jordana’s award titled “Using Sensory Ethnography to Explore Nature-based Proximity Tourism and Family Vacations” supports her travel to Finland this summer/fall to carry out field research under Dr. Outi Rantala’s supervision at the University of Lapland Multidimensional Tourism Institute.

Haley’s award titled “Partnership Capacity in Australian Community Sport” enables her to travel to Australia in the winter for eight weeks to work closely with Dr. Russell Hoye, an expert in sport governance at LaTrobe University in Melborne.

Both students demonstrated extraordinary commitment and scholarship in developing strong applications. It’s wonderful to see them being acknowledged with this award.
