Jack Halberstam is Professor of Gender Studies and English at Columbia University. He is the author of several books, including: Trans: A Quick and Quirky Guide to Gender Variability (U of California Press, 2018); Gaga Feminism: Sex, Gender, and the End of Normal (Beacon Press, 2012); The Queer Art of Failure (Duke UP, 2011); In A Queer Time and Place (NYU Press, 2005) Skin Shows: Gothic Horror and the Technology of Monsters (Duke UP, 1995); Female Masculinity (Duke UP, 1998).

New year, new shows! Join us Thursday, Jan 10 at 5 p.m. for the opening of Shake-n-Make's "Once More, With Feeling" and Kristiina Lahde's "Extraordinary Measures".

Artist Catherine Dallaire re-examines the original Indigenous values in animal and plant life that are often vilified by contemporary Western settler culture. Building understanding between Indigenous and non-Indigenous worldviews is an important step towards peace and conciliation in the Canadian context.

The Master of Public Service (MPS) program is hosting Policy Datafest 2019, a two-day challenge in which graduate students will analyze data sets provided by government departments and agencies. Each student team is given a pressing question about Canadian social, economic, and environmental conditions, and it's up to them to analyze the data and develop insights and actions relevant to policymakers.

Stratford School is celebrating student talents and accomplishments in their most exciting Project Showcase yet! Meet students, mingle with Stratford faculty, industry, and community partners, and see the incredible work developed by students and their mentors at the Stratford Campus.

This two day Summit will showcase the research of the 2019 Global Engagement Seminar students. Interactive student exhibitions will be on display, inviting participation from the broader Waterloo community. We hope to engage in important conversations about the impacts of artificial intelligence, such as automation of jobs, corporate ownership, biases of algorithms and privacy concerns. The objective is to contribute towards the development of meaningful responses to timely global issues.

Please join the Department of Fine Arts in celebrating outstanding MFA candidates and their thesis shows. Opening night is Thursday, April 11, 5:00-8:00 PM. Exhibitions are free and open to the public.
