The Faculty of Arts is very proud to share that Dr. Sara A. Hart will hold the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Developmental Science, based in the Department of Psychology. Hart is an expert in developmental psychology who is at the forefront of using precision education to understand how and why some children struggle to learn to read and do math.

Earning a PhD is an outstanding achievement that reflects dedication and countless hours of work, from attending classes and conducting research to teaching and writing papers. The work done by PhD graduates from the Faculty of Arts demonstrates that their studies aren't confined to books; they're geared towards making a difference in society.

Earning a doctoral degree is a testament to an individual's academic commitment and perseverance. It is a journey marked by countless hours attending seminars, conducting research, teaching courses, and dissertation writing. Each step taken by our PhD students reflects their dedication and intellectual rigour.

Dr. Palmer Patterson, retired Professor of History at the University of Waterloo, passed away on May 17, 2023.  He was a scholar of the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada, and later in his career of the American South during the post-Civil War period.
