Monday, June 14, 2021 8:30 am - Sunday, June 27, 2021 11:59 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Note: this workshop was previously called Inclusive Teaching (CTE2409)

Location: Online (LEARN)
Facilitator: Janet Jones (CTE)

Workshop description

Our classrooms are spaces that bring together students who represent a broad range of racial, cultural, linguistic, socio-economic and educational backgrounds. This module provides a starting point for understanding and honouring diversity in our classrooms by focusing on the learning experiences of culturally and linguistically diverse students. Through your engagement with the module content and conversation with your peers, you’ll learn about, and reflect on,  teaching strategies that view diversity as a strength and help us to create classroom environments that value diversity. Upon completion of this module, you will be able to: 1) examine the cultural and linguistic variables that, along with other aspects of our identities, influence teaching and learning processes and 2) begin to develop the knowledge and skills needed to understand and support the learning process for culturally and linguistically diverse students.

Time Commitment

Approximately 2-3 hours.

Module delivery

Although this module is scheduled over a period of several weeks, it is not a multi-day workshop. The content and expected effort are approximately equivalent to 2-3 hours, but spread over a longer timeframe so that you can move at your own pace.

This online module consists of:
