CUT Assessing Student Learning (CTE020)

Thursday, May 26, 2016 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)

Location: EV1-241

Description: It is common to think only of assignments, tests, and exams as means of assessing our students’ learning. But are these our only choices? The short answer is no. In this workshop, you will be introduced to principles of effective assessment, then consider various types of both formative and summative assessments that can be applied in different disciplines.

Pre-reading:

Using Classroom Assessment Techniques, Eberly Center for Teaching Excellence.

Pre-workshop activity:

Select one formative assessment strategy (from the list of CATs in the pre-reading) that you would like to try in your current course or a future course. Explain how you will use it in this course and what kind of learning you will assess using this strategy. Post your response on the discussion board in the GS 901 course in Waterloo LEARN (no more than 100 words). Due 24 hours before the workshop.

Facilitator: Kristin Brown, CTE and Stephanie White, CTE
