Gender Equity in the Classroom (CTE249)

Wednesday, May 6, 2015 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)
Location: EV1 241

While we may assume that our institutions of higher learning are blind to gender, evidence suggests that the performance of both students and instructors (female and male) may be impacted by classroom gender biases.  This interactive workshop will provide students with the opportunity to explore two specific sites for academic gender bias: undergraduate science classrooms and undergraduate instructor evaluations.  Attendees will be provided with the opportunity to not only expand their gender awareness and learn strategies to create more equitable classroom environments, but also to assess their own preconceptions through workshop activities and discussions. Equity-minded (or simply curious) individuals from all disciplines, both male and female, are encouraged to attend.

Facilitator: Stephanie ChesserPhD candidate, and Marcie Chaudet, CTE

Notes:
  • Participants will receive an attendance credit if they arrive on time and stay until the end of the event.
  • This workshop is open to all graduate students.
