Wednesday, December 7, 2022 10:00 am - 12:00 pm EST

Location: In-person (MC 2036)

Facilitator: Jason Thompson (Centre for Teaching Excellence) and Stephen Tosh (Information Systems and Technology)

Please note:

  • This workshop is intended for instructors
  • If you are a grad student, please contact the facilitators to determine if this session is appropriate for your needs

This two-hour, in-person session will introduce you to LEARN (D2L Brightspace), uWaterloo's course management system for presenting course activities and resources in on-campus and fully online courses. By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Use the LEARN environment to communicate with your students via Announcements and Classlist
  • Make decisions around the most effective way to organize your course material in the Content area
  • Set up the course assessment scheme in the Grades area
  • Use provided resources to support exploring more of the tools available within LEARN on your own

Please come prepared for this in-person session with:

  • A laptop and charger (if you cannot access a laptop for any reason, please contact one of the facilitators to see what arrangements can be made)
  • Access to a LEARN course (either an upcoming real course or your sandbox course)
  • Two or three course content items (e.g., Word doc of a course outline, Word doc of a course schedule, PowerPoint of some lectures, etc.)

Depending on time and interest during the session, we may have the opportunity to explore other LEARN tools such as discussions, dropboxes, or quizzes.

This session also includes a general overview of considerations for copyright and how to incorporate course reserves into your LEARN site.

Registration required (if this is your first time using GoSignMeUp, you will need to set up your account first). If you have changed roles at the University (e.g., graduate student to faculty) please update your "Participant Profile" in your GoSignMeUp account.

Please note that this is an in-person workshop. Although masks are not required, all participants and facilitators are strongly encouraged to wear masks when participating in CTE in-person events.
