Improving Written Feedback (CTE245)

Thursday, March 12, 2015 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)
Location: EV1 241

Description: It is well established that feedback plays a critical role in student learning. With the number of students attending University rising, the reliance on written feedback on student papers has drastically increased. However this rise has been met with dissatisfaction from both the students and the instructors, and often, their concerns are not aligned. As teaching assistants and instructors, how can we improve the effectiveness of our own written feedback to ensure that the time and effort we put into providing such feedback is most beneficial to foster student learning?

In this workshop we identify reasons why written feedback can be ineffective, discuss potential strategies for improving its effectiveness and gain hands-on experience implementing these strategies into our own feedback practices.
