Title: Formative Assessment for Active and Deep Learning in Engineering Courses,Ali Sarhadi

Abstract: Formative assessment contributes to active learning as an effective way to evaluate students’ conceptual understanding and identify common misconceptions. The aim of this research presentation is to discuss different formative assessment instructional strategies for in-class and out-class activities in engineering disciplines. The formative assessment strategies help instructors become aware of different levels of students’ understanding in advance and adjust the pace of lectures accordingly for better retention of important concepts. At the same time, students are also actively engaged in learning process and can better comprehend through evaluating their own learning.

Title: Flipped Classroom Approach in Physics,Ghada Khouqeer

This presentation will explain the flipped classroom model, outline the pros and cons of using this teaching method and explain how this approach can be used in science courses. It will also explore the benefits and challenges of this approach and provide research-based examples of the flipped classroom approach in physics courses.
