Thursday, October 1, 2020 8:30 am - Saturday, October 31, 2020 11:59 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)
NOTE: This online module is an antirequisite to webinar CTE1406 TA Facilitation in a Remote Teaching Environment Webinar. You may only receive a workshop credit once for this module/webinar.
Location: Online (LEARN)
Facilitator: Toben Racicot (CTE) and Hayley Reid (CTE)

Workshop description

Remote and online courses require TAs to use different strategies than the ones they use for in-person classes. This online module will introduce you to the online learning environment and strategies for being an effective TA for remote and online courses. You will learn about the unique needs of online students; the role of TAs in online courses; useful tools in the learning management system; and strategies for communicating with students, facilitating online discussions, and providing feedback. By the end of this module, you will have acquired the tools to be an effective TA in remote and online courses

Module delivery

Although this module is scheduled over a period of several weeks, it is not a multi-day workshop. The content and expected effort are approximately equivalent to 2-3 hours, but spread over a longer timeframe so that you can move at your own pace.

This online module consists of:

  • a set of asynchronous, self-paced tasks in LEARN, that must be completed by the due date of Saturday, October 31 by 11:59 p.m.

Registration

  • Registration required (if this is your first time using GoSignMeUp, you will need to set up your acccount first)

  • Participants will receive an attendance credit towards the Fundamentals program if they complete all of the required tasks in the module, including all the module activities.
  • Participants who do not complete all module activities by the due date will have their registration in the workshop cancelled, and will need to register again the following month.

Accessing the online module

The Fundamentals online module is located in the Fundamentals of University Teaching course in LEARN.

If you do not yet have access to the course, you will need to self-register for it. Please follow the directions on the Fundamentals self-registration webpage to add the course to your LEARN course list.
