Part of Educational Technologies Week

Date: Tuesday,March 13, 11:30-1:00 pm

Location: EV1 241

Facilitators: Rania Al-Hammoud (Civil and Environmental Engineering)

Workshop description

The flipped classroom is becoming a more widely used teaching model for increasing student engagement in the classroom. However, for the flipped classroom to be effective and help increase student engagement in the classroom, it is important to ensure that the students finish the required material before coming to class. LEARN can be used to help ensure that the students have reviewed or interacted with the required resources before coming to class. This frees classroom time to go over higher-level activities of the same concept. In preparation for this workshop, think of a concept in one of your courses that you want to flip. Try to choose a concept that relates to several other concepts that the students have worked on.

Learning outcomes:

After the session, participants will be able to:

  • design a flipped model that will work for your class
  • Set up your course on LEARN to integrate the flipped classroom resources
  • Use LEARN to ensure student completion of the study material before coming to the classroom
