Librarians as Partners in Teaching and Learning

Librarians are often asked to provide instruction for classes across campus, and it can be a challenge to determine how to engage a class depending on their level, the topic of instruction, and the amount of time allotted to the librarian. Librarians experiment with various high impact instructional practices in order to turn these guest lectures into more meaningful interactions with instructors and their students.

During this panel discussion, Tim Ireland, Psychology, Anthropology, and Stratford Campus Librarian; Sandra Keys, Accounting and Finance Librarian; and Laura Bredahl, Optometry and Biology Librarian, will share examples of how they turned one-shot lectures in various undergraduate classes into more meaningful learning opportunities.

Waterloo’s librarians can speak to your classes on a wide array of topics, and are often interested in engaging in new instructional techniques. Please join us for this session to discover when and why you would ask a librarian to guest lecture in your class, and learn about the interesting partnerships that are already occurring on campus.

Facilitators: Tim Ireland, Psychology, Anthropology, and Stratford Campus Librarian; Sandra Keys, Accounting and Finance Librarian; and Laura Bredahl, Optometry and Biology Librarian
