Teaching Support and Innovation is looking forward to offering Instructional Innovations Week, in collaboration with faculty and a number of Academic Support Units.

Throughout three days, colleagues from the University of Waterloo will lead engaging sessions.

Waterloo’s GenAI Teaching Enablement Project supports thoughtful, responsible uses of generative AI in teaching and learning. The Teaching and Learning AI Fellowships support faculty-led projects that explore, pilot, and evaluate innovative AI applications in authentic teaching contexts. This panel brings together the Fellows to share their projects, lessons learned, and opportunities for AI to shape the future of teaching and learning at Waterloo.

In this short session, we will introduce a new AI and Teaching website, designed to help instructors navigate AI effectively in their teaching.

This workshop is a condensed version of our two half-day Assessment Redesign and Generative Artificial Intelligence workshop. It is designed for instructors who want to explore how Generative AI is affecting their assessment design and reflect on the opportunities, challenges, and trade-offs that arise when AI tools are available to students.

Fundamentals Microteaching Sessions provide participants the opportunity to practice delivering a 10-minute lesson and receive constructive feedback in a supportive, low-risk environment. This session is held online in Zoom.

​How are instructors rethinking assessment in response to Generative AI (GenAI)? This fast-paced showcase features a series of short presentations highlighting concrete examples from multiple disciplines.

Critical thinking has long been an educational goal, and AI has amplified its importance. But what does critical thinking entail, and how do instructors foster its development, particularly with the prevalence of student AI use?

Research led by Dr. Matthew Brehmer in the U. Waterloo CS Human-Computer Interaction lab has led to a novel alternative to screen sharing content during presentations, one that composites charts and diagrams in the foreground of webcam video, content that can be manipulated via gestural interaction. His team is seeking educators interested in exploring this new modality for online lectures, peer tutoring, and assessment.

At the Supporting Student Academic Skills (CTE1075) workshop you will be introduced to the Student Success Office’s Learning Support resources and how you can use them as a TA or graduate-student instructor.
