Instructions for attending various types of co-op interviews

In-person individual interview at the Tatham Centre

Here's what you need to know about in-person interviews:

  • Interviews normally take place between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Some interviews may take place outside of these hours due to volume or an employer's schedule.  
  • You must attend all in-person interviews that you are scheduled for. If you are selected for an in-person interview that you are unable to attend because you are away from campus on the first four months of an eight-month work term, or are on exchange, our team will reach out with next steps.
  • If you have any conflicts that prevent you from attending your in-person interview, please follow Co-operative Education’s interview conflict process.
  • If you are a student with permanent, temporary or suspected disabilities, you may require accommodations throughout the interview process. Contact AccessAbility Services for support in determining what kinds of accommodations you might need.
  • If you have questions about your interviews, please reach out to your co-op advisor

Instructions for the day of your interview:

  • Arrive at least ten minutes before your scheduled interview time.
  • Change rooms are available on the lower level of the Tatham Centre.
  • Find a seat in the waiting area (main level).
  • Wait for your name to be paged then check in at the CEE Hub. 
    • Important: We need to know that you arrived for the interview! If you don’t check in when your name is paged, we won’t know that you've attended and will mark you down as a missed interview.
  • After checking in at the CEE Hub, proceed to the interview room.
  • Keep all of your personal belongings with you at all times to prevent theft.

In-person group interview at the Tatham Centre

  • If you have a group interview, your name will not appear on the overhead monitors.
  • Go directly to the interview room five minutes before the group interview scheduled time.
  • Keep all of your personal belongings with you at all times to prevent theft.

Phone or webcam interview

  • Check WaterlooWorks after 4:30 p.m. the day before your interview to confirm your interview time and location.
  • Your interview in WaterlooWorks will show the method listed as "Phone" or "Webcam" and the interview room will be listed as "virtual room #" in the schedule.
  • To allow employers to connect with you remotely, we have provided your contact information. Employers can choose from the following options:
    • Phone: Employer will call you directly during your scheduled interview time slot using the phone number provided on your 'Interview contact details and work search support (5014)' form.*Note: for Conference Calls follow instructions on schedule.
    • Employer-arranged webcam: Employers will provide you with a link and any necessary instructions prior to your scheduled interview time slot. Your UWaterloo email address will be provided to the employer. Keep an eye on your phone and email inbox in case they try to reach you. If you have not received an interview link from your employer by the morning of your interview, please reach out to the CEE Hub via email ceehub@uwaterloo.ca or phone 519-888-4026.
    • WaterlooWorks integrated webcam: Employers may use the WaterlooWorks integrated webcam feature to conduct your interview. With this functionality, you won’t have to wait for links from your employer – you’ll just select a timeslot as usual and you will be able to join a webcam call directly from within WaterlooWorks. Learn how to attend interviews using our WaterlooWorks integrated webcam feature.

"Message Only" interview (employers will contact you directly)

  • When you see a "Message Only" interview type on WaterlooWorks, this means that an employer has chosen to conduct their interviews outside of the typical WaterlooWorks interview process, which is perfectly okay! 
  • In this case, employers will contact students directly via email or phone to arrange an interview time, so keep an eye on your UWaterloo email address or any other addresses included with your application package.

Off-campus interviews

  • In most cases, employers will indicate on their job description if interviews will be conducted at their office/off-campus, so please be sure to read the interview location details carefully before applying and plan accordingly. 
  • In other cases, an employer might not publish this information until they select their candidates, so check your WaterlooWorks dashboard often as we expect you to attend all interviews regardless of the location. 
  • In some cases, last-minute circumstances might cause an employer to change the location of their interviews. In this situation:
    • Follow the instructions listed on WaterlooWorks to attend your off-campus interview.
    • If you have questions, use the "Send a Message" button on your WaterlooWorks dashboard and select "Interviews" to be directed to a representative.

If you are unable to attend an interview that was scheduled outside of WaterlooWorks:

  • If you are unable to attend an off-campus interview for a job posted in WaterlooWorks, follow our interview conflict process and submit an Interview Conflict Form as soon as possible. If the interview location was clearly stated in the job description, we’ll still expect you to attend; if not, we’ll work with you and the employer to make alternate arrangements.
  • In the case that you have a conflict with an interview that was posted and scheduled outside of WaterlooWorks, you are expected to connect with that employer directly to resolve your conflict.
