The Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies is a division of the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences
As part of their senior year, our fourth-year Recreation and Sport Business capstone course went to Toronto for a one-day field trip to visit the MLSE LaunchPad. The MLSE LaunchPad is a sport-for-development agency that intentionally uses sport and physical activity to build healthy communities and improve the lives of youth facing barriers. The class had the opportunity to participate in several hands-on learning activities and learn from the research and evaluation team about LaunchPad’s research platforms and strategies.
The captsone course, REC 413, involves students working in teams on innovative solutions for sport organizations – some of which have been with LaunchPad. Meeting the staff and seeing the facility in person was a great asset in shaping these projects. Following this visit, the class went to Coca-Cola Coliseum to participate in a sport executive panel followed by a networking session with executives across the MLSE brands.
The day was capped off with a fun evening attending a Toronto Marlies game! It was a day to remember for the 4th year RSB students!
