The Government of Canada has just announced that Dr. Talena Atfield has been named a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Tentewatenikonhra'khánion (We Will Put Our Minds Together). Dr. Atfield is of Kanien'kehá:ka of the Grand River and mixed settler backgrounds and is an assistant professor in the Department of History.
The Faculty of Arts has lost an outstanding alumna, Wendi Campbell, who passed away on January 15, 2024. Her social impacts included leading the Food Bank of Waterloo Region as CEO for more than 15 years.
Distinguished Professor Emeritus John English has been named to the Order of Ontario in recognition of his significant contributions as a historian, author and administrator, including his work in bringing "history to life, shaping our understanding of our past and place in the world today."

This fall Arts welcomed AMTD Postdoctoral Fellow, Dr. Elena Caruso, who is based in the Department of Political Science. Dr. Caruso's research aims to question the role of the state in the regulation of abortion, to reshape dominant legal paradigms in abortion care, and to draw important lessons for the future of health technologies.
The Faculty of Arts is very proud to share that Dr. Sara A. Hart will hold the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Developmental Science, based in the Department of Psychology. Hart is an expert in developmental psychology who is at the forefront of using precision education to understand how and why some children struggle to learn to read and do math.
