The annual Psychology Discovery Conference continues to grow with the 2026 edition featuring more than 80 research presentations by undergraduate and graduate students — highlighting the breadth of psychological science at Waterloo while creating space for students to present, connect, and learn across disciplines.

Today Dr. Geoffrey Fong, founder of the ITC Project at Waterloo, receives the Doll-Wynder Award, the highest honour for groundbreaking advances in public health, public policy or epidemiological research presented by the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco.

Dr. Alexie Tcheuyap, Dean of Arts, has been elected as Secretary of the Royal Society of Canada’s (RSC) Academy of Arts and Humanities. Serving for a three-year term, Tcheuyap will also become a member of the RSC Council, the organization’s principal governing body. 

The Faculty of Arts is proud to share that Dr. Kate Ratliff, associate professor of psychology, has been named a Tier 1 SSHRC Canada Research Chair in Intergroup Attitudes.

Dr. Evan Risko from the Department of Psychology has been awarded Waterloo's prestigious Award of Excellence in Graduate Supervision, recognizing his exceptional commitment to the success of his graduate students.

The Faculty of Arts is fortunate to host Dr. Robin McCrary, Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Anti-racism and BIPOC Communities. Visiting Waterloo from Syracuse University, McCrary’s research is based in health humanities with the goal to improve patient trust in healthcare.

The Faculty of Arts welcomes Dr. Emma Brandt, a new postdoctoral fellow working in Communication Arts who began in her role on September 1, 2024.

Dr. Geoffrey Fong has been announced as a 2025 inductee of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame in recognition of outstanding achievements and impact on health.

PhD student Karmvir Padda from the Department of Sociology and Legal Studies has been awarded the P.E.O. Scholar Award for her contributions to the field of sociology and research on online radicalization and extremism.
