Description

The Nanotechnology Engineering program (NE) proposes to introduce a series of teaching modules and experiential learning activities based on laser pointer fabrication into the curriculum which aims to create a fun environment to foster student learning and engagement and serves as model project for horizontal and vertical integration of engineering curriculum. The proposed laser pointer project will connect 17 core and laboratory courses together and begin in first year where students will reverse engineer the laser pointer device. By the end of the program, students will have constructed their one-of the kind laser pointers and compete in challenges for their design. The project will divide into two phases: (1) identify teaching and learning activities for the selected NE course and review facilities and resources required to run the proposed project; (2) development and implementation of project into the curriculum. The seed grant is intended to support the phase (1) activities.
