ePortfolios: Peer Review (CTE738)

Thursday, March 5, 2015 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm EST (GMT -05:00)

Location: EV1 241 Notes: Open to faculty (registration is required)

Description: One benefit of ePortfolios is that they support a form of social learning known as peer review: students provide formative feedback on one another's ePortfolios, which benefits both the individual receiving the feedback and the individual providing it. LEARN's ePortfolio tool has two features that students can use to give feedback on one another's ePortfolios. The first feature is the ability to add comments. With it, students can provide free-form text comments on each other's ePortfolio items. The second feature is  rubrics, which guide students in a structured manner as they give actionable and useful feedback. This is achieved without adding significantly to the instructor's workload.

Learning Outcomes. After the session, participants will be able to:

  • identify how they can use ePortfolios and peer evaluation in their courses
  • use the comment and rubric functionality of the ePortfolio tool in LEARN to facilitate peer evaluation

Facilitators Katherine Lithgow and Kyle Scholz

Note: This is a hands-on workshop: participants should bring their own laptop so that they can log into the ePortfolio tool in LEARN.

Note: If you have not used ePortfolios, please attend CTE737 - ePortfolios: Hands-on Introduction. This workshop assumes that you are familiar with the ePortfolio features and/or have used LEARN's ePortfolio.
