Winners of the "Where in the World?!" Co-op Photo Contest - 2016
We asked our participants to reflect on what inspired them to submit their photo.
1st Place: Tiffany Mah (Vik, Iceland)
Tiffany says, "To answer the question from the song, Drops of Jupiter: “Did you make it to the Milky Way to see the lights all faded?”, –Yes, I made it! This photo was captured after I finished my international co-op placement in Nürnberg, Germany, where I had a layover in Reykjavik, Iceland, on my way back home to Canada. In this moment, I truly felt humbled - you see what a tiny place you occupy in the world - looking out into the galaxy and seeing how insignificant our daily worries are."
2nd Place: Elvin Madamba (Palawan, Philippines)
Elvin says, "I spent eight months in the most beautiful island in the world, Palawan Island, Philippines—seriously, ask Conde Nast Traveler—as a Social Investment Intern for Shell Philippines. I’ve had plenty of opportunities to be in the most beautiful beaches, forests, reefs, different socio-ecological systems in the world when I was in Palawan. This particular photo of Kayangan Lake in Coron is one of the most “postcard-esque” photos I’ve taken. The conditions were perfect: before sunset, calm water, clear sky. The only conditions that weren’t perfect were the millions of mosquitoes that bit me as I took this shot."
