The first PSYCH39x Science Fair was held on Monday April 6th between 2pm and 4pm on the main floor of EV3, just outside of Williams Fresh Cafe. This event featured project posters from the students of James Danckert and Paul Wehr's sections of PSYCH398.

Carrie Aulenbacher remembers the conversation clearly: Her husband told her he wanted to buy an arcade machine he found on eBay. He said he’d been saving up for it as a birthday present to himself. The spouses sat at the kitchen table and discussed where it would go in the den.

Two weeks later, Ms. Aulenbacher came home from work and found two arcade machines in the garage—and her husband beaming with pride.

“What are these?” she demanded.

“I told you I was picking them up today,” he replied.

The University of Waterloo and Grand River Hospital have launched a partnership to enable academics and clinicians to collaborate on research that will benefit patient care and enrich university research.

The Faculty of Arts hosted its third annual 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) heat on March 12 with 15 graduate students competing in a tight race. A strong advocate for 3MT, Dean Douglas Peers likened the calibre of research presented by Arts students to the 3MT National Competition last year where he was a judge.

A University of Waterloo researcher has been recognized as a world leader in tobacco control.

Prof. Geoffrey Fong received an award from the American Cancer Society for his outstanding research contribution.

UWaterloo CanBuild collected over 4,500 cans with approximately 1,000 items going to the Federations of Students Food bank and the remaining items going to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region. Through the hard work and dedication of 16 teams we were able to gather 4904 pounds of food, equalling 6,538 meals for our community!

The EWO Co-op Student of the Year Award recognizes Ontario Co-op students who have showcased exceptional job achievement, extra-curricular involvement, academic achievement and a strong contribution to Co-operative Education.

The Early Childhood Education Centre (ECEC) participated in the second annual University CanBuild project to collect food items for donation to the food bank. The youngsters (2 ½ to 5 years of age) built a castle they called “The Good Castle” with the help of their parents and teachers.

The authors of a recent study linking smart phone use and lazy thinking say the results don’t mean users need to throw away their cellphones, but rather people should think twice before reaching for Google.
