Student Leadership Certificate Program
Offered by Organizational & Human Development (OHD). This program has been designed to encourage all students to participate regardless of whether they are in a leadership role. The intent of these offerings is to explore and enhance Waterloo student’s leadership capabilities and to help students gain knowledge and develop skills in leadership situations within the classroom, within the campus community, while on co-op employment and after graduation. This is achieved through workshop experiences such as personal assessments, group activities, reflection exercises and goal setting opportunities.

These workshops are free to any current University of Waterloo student (Undergraduate/Graduate) and they can be completed in any order and at any pace. There are 12, two hour workshops in total, and all must be completed in order to receive a Student Leadership Program certificate. SLP workshops are facilitated by OHD trained and certified facilitators, pulled from a pool of students, staff and alumni.

HRM course offerings W2015/S2015
HRM and PSYCH course availability is posted on the HRM website. The link to the Psych courses is at the top right of the page:

Winter 2015 open enrolment begins November 24.

HRM Requirements
*Important: Re-sending previous clarification regarding HRM requirements

There is still confusion/misunderstanding regarding the HRM Minor (2012) requirements, specifically:

“Two of PSYCH 338, 339, 340” and “Three of HRM 301, 303, 305, 307”.

‘Two of’ and ‘Three of’ are the minimum number of courses you must take from those groups. You can take all three PSYCH, and all four HRM, and are strongly advised to do so if you intend to pursue the CHRP designation.

The ‘remaining courses to a total of eight’ are electives. You are not required to take courses from the ‘Electives’ list. The ‘Electives’ offer you some flexibility in terms of completing your Minor requirements if you’re not able to complete your eight courses from the ‘Required’ list (e.g., because of course availability, co-op, exchange, etc.).

Prior to the 2012/2013 Undergraduate Calendar I was able to add the word ‘Minimum’ before ‘two of PSYCH 338, 339, 340’ and ‘three of HRM 301, 303, 305, 307’. We were required to remove what was considered ‘extra wording’ as it was deemed by the Faculty that it was clear that ‘two of’ meant the same as ‘minimum two of’. For clarification I have kept the word ‘minimum’ on the HRM website under the Minor requirements.

Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Best,
Theresa

Practicum  available at Grand River Hospital

My name is Candice Weber, the student co-ordinator at Grand River Hospital.

I have been approached by my manager, Stephanie Brundl, to find a student that is looking to do a practicum at Grand River Hospital in our Organizational Development department.  It would be a tremendous opportunity to learn about all the facets of HR.  This would provide the student with a broad overview of all the areas in our Vice President of HR’s portfolio, occupational health and safety, recruitment, retention, compensation, benefits, labour relations, scheduling, and organizational development.  It would also help the student to understand all of the components that go into creating a healthy work environment that is vital to engaged employees and outstanding outcomes and customer service.

Will this position be paid?  No this will be an unpaid practicum placement.

When is it being offered? We are very flexible to when this can start, and how long the student stays.  If we had one student come in for a time frame and another student start after that time frame that would be something we could look into as well if the practicums for some students are shorter.

How long is it? We would be able to negotiate this as we don’t have a set time as to how long we want this student to stay with us.

Will the work be full time or part time equivalent? This again is negotiable

Anyone interested in this opportunity should contact Candice directly at the email below.
