Tatham Centre at the University of Waterloo

It’s the building on campus we visit often but know so little about. Other than attending your scheduled interviews here, do you really know what goes on inside the Tatham Centre?

We created student articles as a way to provide more insight into the inner-workings of Co-operative Education at the University of Waterloo. These will be regular, bi-weekly pieces written by a co-op student for co-op students!

We will explore topics and issues that matter to you. Have you ever wondered, “what projects are taking place at co-op?” or “how are my co-op problems solved?” My job will be to lift the curtain on the department’s inner-workings to answer these kinds of questions.

Co-operative Education hears the students’ call for support and work is being done to address them. For example, business developers connect with employers and are constantly finding new opportunities for over 20,000 co-op students. Approximately 97.7% of students are employed every term, while the co-op program continues to grow significantly.

As we find new ways to improve the student experience, I hope to answer the burning questions you have and uncover subjects you might not have necessarily thought about. My goal is to help bridge the gap that exists between co-op and the student body today.

I’m Tharangi, a Waterloo undergrad student just like you! I am in my third year, majoring in Sociology and minoring in Social Development Students. I am on my work term as the Co-op Student Experience Associate and I will be writing these articles.

In the next few months, I hope to bring you a fresh perspective that is relevant to all of us as co-op students and achieve greater understanding.
