Nick Cercone (1946-2015)

The David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science is deeply saddened to share the passing of former chair, Nicholas Cercone. Professor Cercone passed peacefully with his wife by his side, members of the school were told in a letter from York University's dean of the Lassonde school of Engineering Janusz Kozinski.

CS student dies in California collision

The David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science is mourning the loss of Gabriel Barsky, age 20, who died as the result of a motorcycle accident while in San Francisco on a work term. Gaby was a bright and vibrant third-year student who was extremely interested in the startup culture and loved working on his own side projects. Gaby will be deeply missed by his many friends in Computer Science and across campus.

David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science joins the National Center for Women & Information Technology as an academic affiliate

The David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science has joined the the National Center for Women & Information Technology as an academic affiliate. The National Centre for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT), based out of the University of Colorado, is a non-profit community of more than 600 universities, companies, non-profits and government organizations working to increase women's participation in computing and technology.

CS Professor awarded Most Influential Paper by IEEE International Conference on Software Analysis, Evolution, and Reengineering

David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science professor Michael Godfrey and alumnus Cory Kasper (PhD, 2009) have been awarded most influential paper from Working Conference on Reverse Engineering (WCRE) and the European Conference on Software Maintenance and Reengineering (CSMR), for their 2006 paper "Cloning considered harmful" considered harmful (PDF).
