Vancouver flocks to Waterloo to recruit top tech talent

The Vancouver Economic Commission (VEC) seeks to position Vancouver as a globally recognized city for innovative, creative and sustainable business - and they want Waterloo’s top tech talent to help.

On May 30, the VEC made headlines when they visited Waterloo to host two unique employer information sessions. A panel of seven companies presented their “elevator pitch” to entice students for employment opportunities in western Canada. Each company that joined the VEC information sessions has posted jobs for fall co-op work terms.

Kinesiology student finds her fit

Kinesiology co-op student Emily Chiara has enhanced women’s lives, one bra fitting at a time.

Emily completed her first work term at Susan’s Fine Lingerie and Mastectomy Boutique this past winter. She trained as a professional bra fitter for women who have had (or will have) a mastectomy, a treatment for cancer that involves the surgical removal of all or part of the breast.

Collaboration helps build the best co-op experience

The event was sponsored in part by Co-operative and Experiential Education (CEE) at Waterloo, and co-hosted with Wilfrid Laurier University.

An article in Times Higher Education calls Waterloo’s co-op “a sextuple-decker club sandwich, piled high and stuffed with fillings," comparing UK work integrated learning as “a plain old cheese and pickle sarnie."

Co-op makes a big splash in Dallas

When you’re in a room full of American colleges and universities that specialize in co-operative education, what makes Waterloo’s co-op program stand out? At the Co-operative Education and Internship Association (CEIA) conference in Dallas, Texas, Waterloo delivered an outstanding presentation showing that it’s possible to be large and student-focused at the same time.
