By Kamal Rajab

Does it ever seem that the co-op process can get overwhelming? When the first few weeks of the academic term roll around, we quickly realize that our resumes need to be updated. Shortly after, we also need to decide on what job or field may peak our interests for the following term

Soon enough, the process of shortlisting and applying for jobs begin. Our tunnel vision of job applications may have caused our thoughts about academic responsibilities to become very fuzzy as juggling both school and co-op applications can be challenging.

I found myself overwhelmed and worried the first time I was ever applying for a co-op job. It was not a great feeling as I wanted to do well in school, continue with my social life, and find that great job that everyone wants. However, the possibility of not being able to obtain all of these goals worried me.

I realized that I needed some advice. I reached out to my co-op advisor to assist me with this process. I logged into Waterloo Works and found their contact information.

My advisor was able to answer any questions that I had. They critiqued my resume and even went as far as helping me with mock interviews. I quickly realized that our co-op advisors were the best point of contact to eliminate any overwhelming feelings. Because of their help, the co-op process has become a process that I learned to enjoy.

My name is Kamal Rajab and I am in my 3A co-op term in the Arts and Business – Psychology program. This co-op term I am working at Cooperative Education (CE) as a co-op student experience associate. During my next four months I hope to relay information to all of you regarding the student body and CE. You can expect information about different roles at CE, how to achieve an “outstanding” work evaluation and more!

The co-op program at the University of Waterloo is an excellent experience that we are so privileged to be a part of. It has the ability to shape us into a better version of ourselves and change our lives. Our hard work and dedication reflects why we are one of most innovative institutions in the world.
