Courses for your Liberal Studies degree

First-year courses

Liberal Studies does not have any required courses in first year except for two Arts First courses. These courses, capped at 25 students in each timeslot, are ARTS 130 - Inquiry and Communication and ARTS 140 - Information and Analysis. Instead of listening to a lecture and trying to capture notes, you and your classmates will work together to respond to a challenge posed by the instructor.

You'll choose eight additional courses in your first year for a total of 10 courses (five each term).

After first year

Most of the classes you’ll take will be courses offered within the Faculty of Arts. With your remaining classes, you can choose electives from many of the 100 subject areas at Waterloo.
